I want you to be like me. I want you to get mad. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell: I’M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE.

Hopefully some of you know where I am coming from with this. No I am not JUST trying to quote the movie ‘Network,’ I am trying to fill the mouths of Arizona State followers everywhere with a way to fight back. To fight back from years of let down and frustration. To fight the very thing that makes us stay up all hours of the night, going crazy. This my readers, is Sun Devil athletics, a damned succubus, that gives you all the hope in the world only to rip the rug right out from under your feet, leaving you flat on your back, time after time after time.

I have been a loyal Sun Devil since fall of 2002. That was when Arizona State University received my first payment of many and my allegiance was given to the Sun Devils. The tough times had started many years before, but in the tiny window of seven years, I have felt enough heartbreak to fill thirty-seven Territorial Cups. For our purposes here, we are only going to be referring to the college sports that matter; Football, Baseball and Men’s Basketball. Sure ASU has many titles, 37 is my count, and won a Women’s Softball championship just over one year ago, but these sports don’t affect the world. For as many track, golf and swimming titles as ASU has amassed over the years, I just cannot justify getting myself worked up in a frenzy over such trivial matters. The three sports we will focus on are the lifeblood of any athletic department; they bring in the most money, viewers and support, and therefore allow for the heartbreak we all are trying to avoid.

With this past weeks crushing defeat at the hands of my hometown Texas Longhorns at the College World Series, (yes, bittersweet I know) I am not sure if I will ever live to see the Devils bring home a title. When ASU took their 6-run lead early in the game with an All-American ace on the hill, it seemed nearly impossible for Texas to grind its way back into the game. Texas had other plans and within 30 minutes, the lead had evaporated. Now you may think this is rare, but it seems every time ASU gets in a huge game they blow it. I don’t mean they lose, I mean they take the lead, look in control and BLOW IT.
